The Creative Concept of Vivian Lins's "Planet Series"
From the emergence of life beneath the waters to the first steps of mankind, from the barrels of rifles to the fireworks in the sky, new powers continue to emerge. With new discoveries, our cognition constantly expands. When we cast our gaze towards the profound starry sky, this once vast and mysterious world seems to shrink, becoming like a mere speck of dust on the vast cosmic sandbox. So, how do we break through the limitations of human perception to explore the intangible mysteries of the universe? Writers and scholars pour their lifetimes of effort into recording their meager cognition and imagination of the vast starry rivers on paper, while artist Vivian Lin ponders these curious and mysterious questions spanning thousands of years on her canvas with the eyes of a traveler. The clock of the earth is different from ours. The signs of prosperity emerging from the gaps of the steel and concrete forest are only tens of thousands of years old, which is but a fleeting moment for the earth that has undergone hundreds of millions of years of trials. The clock of the earth, however, differs vastly from the clock of the universe. In the long history of the universe, the earth and mankind may merely be a brief interlude. If we abandon the perspective of anthropocentrism, it becomes apparent that the world beyond human visual range does not mean it does not exist or is not measurable. Just like the Big Bang, Vivian Lin's "Planet Series" emerged at the right time. In this series, she eliminated previous narrative elements, emotions, and the presence of humans, allowing the universe to become the sole subject of her hymns. Her paintings are vast and abstract, contemplations of the universe, nature, body, and matter, with dense layers and rich textures. The dominant colors gradually sink into the background, and the fleeting poses disappear, revealing hidden layers. Those colors flow on the canvas like slowly rotating gaseous stars, emitting the brilliant light of millions of years ago. Golden yellow, green, and purple complement each other, forming the mountains, plains, and rivers of planets. They silently tell a concealed yet vivid history billions of light-years away. What Vivian Lin wants to explore is how to face the vast and silent universe when one's individuality weakens the subjectivity of humans. Both life and the universe are composed of flowing particles, and for individuals, this long life is merely a moment of arrangement. The earth, in the face of the universe, is as insignificant as humans are in the face of mountains. Cries in the vacuum go unanswered, and even the sound of radio waves requires countless mediums to transmit information. All an individual can do is gaze and breathe these fleeting moments. Although the stars cannot speak, they answer everything through the movement of celestial bodies.Vivian Lin responds to these silent answers, these silent exchanges with the stars, with pigments heavier than mountains. These silent exchanges with the stars will undoubtedly bring new inspiration to the audience.
